Sayre Theatre 100th birthday event taking shape
Plans for the Sayre Theatre's 100th anniversary are taking shape! The Centennial Committee is pleased to announce that the New Year's Eve culminating event now has an official name: Celebrating a Century of Memories through Film & Stage. The Committee chose the name from entries submitted through a naming contest. Mike Henrich of Sayre had the winning submission.
The Theatre, built in 1914, opened officially on New Year's Day in 1915. To commemorate that event, the Centennial Committee will host a December 31, 2014 event with fun and activities leading into New Year's Day 2015. The formal event on the 31st will include a Commemorative Program, catered light buffet food, wine, soft drinks, a brief program, live entertainment featuring Justin Shaw & Friends, and a champagne/sparkling soda toast at midnight with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and lighting of the official Sayre Theatre birthday cake candle. Tickets for the evening's festivities are $25 and will be available soon through the Bradford County Regional Arts Council Office and at the Sayre Theatre. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Sayre Theatre marquee fund.
On New Year's Day, a special matinee for children concludes the celebration year with a free showing of "The Lion King," along with special children's activities.
Sayre Theatre Commemorative Soda Bottles and Christmas Ornaments are also still available at the Sayre Theatre. The soda is available in Orange, Black Cherry, Root Beer, and Raspberry Lime Rickey, and comes in a vintage-style bottle with a Sayre Theatre Commemorative label. The Soda can be purchased by the bottle ($2.50 per bottle) or by the case ($50 per case; 24 bottles to a case; can be mixed flavors). The commemorative gold-tone ornaments featuring a picture of the Sayre Theatre are $10.
All proceeds from the soda and ornament sales benefit the Sayre Theatre's Centennial: Celebrating a Century of Memories through Film & Stage. The Celebration activities are sponsored, in part by the Sayre American Legion and the Sayre VFW.
