Former Miles Davis sideman brings new group to Sayre

Come enjoy an evening of jazz with Dave Liebman and his new group, Expansions, at the next Bradford County Regional Arts Council's 2014-2015 Nightlife on the Susquehanna show on Saturday, November 8, at 7:30pm in the Guthrie Performing Arts Center at the Sayre Theatre.

With his group, Liebman continues the time-tested tradition of master/apprentice as he experienced in the 1970's with drummer Elvin Jones and Miles Davis, by reaching across generations to teach and learn. Expansions features the up and coming pianist Bobby Avey, reedman Matt Vashlishan, drummer Alex Ritz, and a continuation of Liebman's long relationship with bassist Tony Marino. Conceptually, the repertoire traverses elements of free jazz and re-arrangements of standards all infused with the complex time signatures and harmonies being explored by the new jazz artists.

Liebman's career has spanned over four decades, beginning in the early 1970's while performing and recording with many of the masters including Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, McCoy Tyner and others. Liebman has led his own groups and has been featured on nearly 350 recordings, of which he has been the leader or co-leader on 150, with several hundred original compositions published. His repertoire is among the most eclectic of contemporary artists ranging from original adaptations of standard material to 20th century inspired classical music, from fusion to his own big ban and free jazz ensembles.

Tickets for the David Liebman performance are $18 for adults; $15 for seniors; and $10 for students and are available online at www.bcrac.org or by calling the BCRAC Office at 570-268-ARTS (2787). Groups of 20 or more receive a 10% discount; please contact the BCRAC Office at 570-268-ARTS (2787).
